Ominous Signs: Kenmore Square, Boston
By: Alex Scofield
Just a block or so from Fenway Park in Boston earlier this month, I was positive I’d find several places that served espresso at 11 p.m. One cafe/take-out restaurant promised “Coffee Cappuccino Espresso” in its window, and I figured this was the place. It was a different story once I’d been hooked inside, though. There was Coffee on the menu, and there was Cappuccino on the menu. No Espresso.
Let’s be serious, here. Do you really think the Cappuccino is authentic if Espresso isn’t offered?
I don’t, either. An old-school INeedCoffee article on Coffee House Stereotyping ran through my mind. I fled the cafe, admittedly without asking any pointed questions about the place’s brewing methods. I had my hunch, I believed in it 100%, and I still do. Sometimes one just knows.
