Using 3,604 Cups of Coffee To Recreate The Mona Lisa

Somehow I missed this story back in August. At the Aroma Festival in Sydney, Australia, they created their own version of the Mona Lisa using 3,604 cups of coffee. Amazing!

Coke Zero in Thailand

Even though I quit drinking Coke Zero in 2008, I make an exception when I’m in a hot place far from quality coffee.  So in 2009, I drank Coke Zero in Thailand, Cambodia and New Orleans.  Coke Zero is my caffeinated insurance policy when I’m surrounded with bad coffee and tea.
This week Venezuela devalued their currency by [...]

This Michigan man is a true Coffee Hero.  From The AP story Man with knife in chest calls 911, orders coffee:
A man who walked into a Michigan diner with a 5-inch knife stuck in his chest ordered a coffee and complained only about the cold weather.
The 52-year-old man, who has not been identified, called a [...]

Ruining Coffee Breaks For the Rest of Us

The coffee break is a time honored tradition and like many of you, I don’t want to be interrupted when I’m drinking my coffee.  However, common sense must prevail.  A 25 year old pregnant woman died today when some paramedics decided to continue their coffee break instead of providing medical assistance.

Bean-Counting: Starbucks, Indie Cafes, and Coffee’s Third Wave

Nicholas Cho wrote a phenomenal Washington Post op-ed, Your Local Coffee Shop: Courtesy of Starbucks? He refers to coffee’s “Third Wave,” a term that is growing increasingly popular among coffee fanatics.  Cho credits Trish Skeie with coining the Third Wave term, which goes something like this:
1st Wave
Coffee was “consumed” with little concern for its quality.  [...]

That Time I Got a Cease and Desist From Starbucks

With all the talk about the new Starbucks location opening up that will serve alcoholic drinks, I think this story is relevant.
Way back in 2001, INeedCoffee published a collection of Espresso Martini recipes.  One drink recipe used a Starbucks trademarked name in part of the title. Their lawyers discovered the page two years later [...]

Interesting news story just broke. From Man Dies After Falling Into Tank of Chocolate:
A Camden man died after he apparently fell into a vat of melted chocolate at a factory Wednesday morning, said police.
The accident happened at Cocoa Services around 10:30 a.m. Vincent Smith II was standing on a nine-foot-high platform loading chunks of [...]

Whatever Happened to the Coffee Breakfast Cereal?

Back in 2003, the coffee world received word that New Zealand had developed the first coffee flavored breakfast cereal.  From the original Hubbards press release courtesy of Badgett’s Coffee E-Journal:
An innovative new cereal to combine your morning coffee with breakfast. Light aromatic coffee flavoured wheat flakes combined with crisp rice flakes and yoghurt-coated cornflakes.
I went [...]
